Digital Edge Price List Update

The DigitalEdge is a purchasing program at ESD 112 that works hard to provide districts the opportunity to get the best possible pricing on classroom equipment by putting the equipment out to bid.

Recently, the DigitalEdge office at ESD 112 developed a catalog of the most popular equipment on the contract. The catalog is intended to target the needs of most districts, as well as help the participants in the Peer Coaching and TL21 projects select equipment to meet their needs. In some cases, the vendors have provided "special pricing" through th eDigitalEdge contract for this catalog.

The catalog is in PDF format, but is too large to send as an e-mail attachment. Many districts' e-mail servers will block it because ofits size, so the DigitalEdge office has provided the catalog online at:

1. Some of the "special pricing" in this catalog has expiration dates. If that's the case, the expiration date is notedon the page somewhere.

2. There are many more products on the DigitalEdge contract, and they can be found at http://www.esd112.org/digitaledge/wa/about/digitaledge/,but the products in the catalog are the ones that are the most popular and tha tmeet the needs of the Title IID competitive projects, as well as general district needs.

Training Opportunity for Cadre 1 Peer Coaches

You've just ended your two years in the Peer Coaching program and you're asking yourself..."what's next?" I'd like to invite you to a special Thinkfinity workshop designed for you: Thinkfinity for Trainers

But first...

What is Thinkfinity? Thinkfinity is the cornerstone of Verizon Foundation's literacy, education and technology initiatives. Their goal is to improve student achievement in traditional classroom settings and beyond by providing high-quality content and extensive professional development training. Thinkfinity makes it easy for educators to enhance their classroom instruction with lesson plans, interactive activities and other online resources. Thinkfinity also provides a wealth of educational and literacy resources for students, parents, and after-school programs. Visit www.thinkfinity.org for further information.

Training Description: This 2-day session will provide all of the information necessary for you to become proficient with the resources that Thinkfinity offers. It provides you with additional time for investigation of resources, collaboration with colleagues, and discussion and exploration of specific training strategies. You will also begin to develop their own Thinkfinity training plan. Upon completion, you will be ready to go back to your schools and train others on all that Thinkfinity has to offer.

Date: August 10-11, 2009

Time: 9 am - 4 pm, each day

Location: Puget Sound ESD; Renton, WA

Cost: Free with a travel reimbursement for those traveling further than 100 miles

Requirement: Each participant trained will commit to training at least 10 others and reporting back during the 09-10 school year

Maximum number: 30 participants; first-come, first-served

Credit: 12 clock hours, 1 SPU credit

TL21 Grant Applications Due May 27th, 2009 3:00pm

Grant Application  Teaching & Learning in the 21st Century (TL21) Program

We encourage educators in eligible school districts to apply for grant funding for the Teaching & Learning in the 21st Century (TL21) Program. TL21 is a new two-year course of professional development designed for educators who want to learn the basics of technology integration. It is structured with two strands – hands-on training that develops strong proficiencies with digital technologies, and the study and practice of instructional strategies that integrate technology into standards-based curricula. TL21 grant awardees will receive 62 hours of comprehensive professional development and be able to equip their classrooms with specific digital technologies. The new program is a component of the Title II, Part D, EETT (Enhancing Education Through Technology) Program funded by ARRA – American Recovery & Reinvestment Act 2009.

Applications must be received at OSPI by 3:00 on May 27, 2009. Successful grant recipients will receive $7,600, which pays for professional development, travel and substitute teacher costs, and hardware and software.

Qwest Foundation Learning Technologies Grant

Washington State K-12 educators are invited to apply for a 2009 Qwest Foundation Learning Technologies grant.

This grant application is the first step in a competitive process that will award $10,000 grants to individual public school teachers or teacher teams. These grants reward learning projects that integrate technology into standards-based curricula. The grant is managed by Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) Educational Technology unit. Completed grant applications are due at OSPI no later than 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 21, 2009.

Tell Congress the Importance of EETT

Ed Tech Friends,

The House and Senate Appropriations Committees have scheduled action on FY 09 education funding, including funding for the Enhancing Education Through Technology (EETT) program, in the next two weeks. Make your voice heard now. Tell Congress to reject the President's proposal to eliminate EETT and to restore funding for the program to its FY05 level ($496 million).

As the daily news brings word of rising inflation, layoffs and fierce economic competition from abroad, we cannot afford to skimp on a program that provides our students the competitive edge that they need to succeed academically and in the workforce. EETT puts technology knowledge and tools in the hands of America's K-12 students and teachers. Eliminating it or decreasing funding for this program will serve only to undermine efforts to get America's economy back on track and dim the employment prospects of its students.

With the House and Senate Appropriators now preparing Appropriations bills for FY09, we urge you not to delay in contacting YOUR Members of Congress about how important education technology funding is to the nation's academic and economic goals. Please make your voice heard in support of the EETT program.

You can use the Educational Technology Advocacy Network to send a letter or email to your local legislator. Every letter generated during this crucial time makes a difference. Even if you already took action a few weeks or months ago, please send another letter and spread the word to your friends, family and coworkers. Your voice matters!
